The topic of the 17th Annual Timothy B. and Jane A. Burnett Seminar for Academic Achievement was “Ready for Takeoff: Preparing Teens with ADHD or LD for College” featuring Dr. Theresa Maitland, a leading expert on college students with ADHD/LD. In this presentation, Dr. Maitland shared what parents and professionals can do to increase the odds that transitioning teens with ADHD/LD will be ready to navigate college successfully.

Theresa E. Laurie Maitland, Ph.D. is a leading expert on college students with ADHD/LD. She is the author of many popular books on ADHD and learning differences, including Ready for Takeoff: Preparing Your Teen with ADHD or LD for College, On Your Own: A College Readiness Guide for Teens with ADHD/LD, and Coaching College Students with ADHD.

A former ADHD learning specialist and coach at The University of North Carolina, Dr. Maitland has also worked as a teacher at all grade levels, a college professor, an in-service trainer and a clinician. She has presented nationally on topics related to teaching and parenting adolescents and young adults with ADHD and learning differences. She was the co-chair of the Professional Advisory Board of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder) for several years and contributed to the development of The National Attention Deficit Disorder Association Guiding Principles for Coaching Individuals with Attention Deficit Disorder.
