Guided Study Groups: The Supplemental Instruction Program

The Supplemental Instruction Program (SI) provides FREE academic support in a group discussion format to students enrolled in introductory biochemistry, biology, physics, and other courses. Each leader holds three 50-minute sessions per week. Please click on the link below for specific days, times, and locations.

SI targets high-risk courses, not high-risk students. Participating courses generally are large-enrollment, lecture-format classes that serve as gateways to particular majors and professional fields or fulfill a distribution requirement. Attendance is voluntary.

Statistics show that students who attend SI regularly earn final course grades that are one-half to one full letter grade higher than non-participants from control groups (students who wanted to attend but had scheduling conflicts).

For questions, please contact the program coordinators: Christina Perry (cp@unc.edu, 919-962-6389, 0115 SASB North, The Learning Center) or Mary Willingham (mwillingham@uncaa.unc.edu, 919-843-6029, Kenan Field House, Academic Support for Athletes).
